St. Louis Banker Recognized with ABA Foundation’s Highest Honor

Alex D. Fennoy has made it his life’s mission to deliver accessible and essential banking services to the most underserved parts of St. Louis. Serving as the EVP and Community & Economic Development Director at Midwest BankCentre, Fennoy has been a champion of financial inclusion for the community.

Fennoy pioneered the opening of two branches in historically unbanked areas in partnership with community-serving and faith-based organizations. According to a study from Washington University in St. Louis, the economic impact of these two branches alone exceeds $20 million.

In his role as co-chair of the St. Louis Regional Financial Empowerment Coalition, Fennoy led Bank-On Save-Up St. Louis, a financial education program that led to the creation of more than 20,000 new accounts for previously underserved individuals. Fennoy also played a leading hand in creating the bank’s “Life Happens” product line aimed at combatting daily challenges to financial security through accessible personal and business loans and checking accounts.

In light of his years of service to the St. Louis community, Fennoy is the recipient of the 2020 George Bailey Distinguished Service Award. This award, presented by the ABA Foundation, honors bankers who demonstrate outstanding initiative, effectiveness and inspiration to others—ABA’s highest individual honor.
