WSFS Stands for Service

WSFS Bank sprang into action to provide community support during the onset of the pandemic, embodying its tagline, “We Stand for Service”. The bank pledged $300,000 to aid local charities, ultimately assisting 21 nonprofits in providing services to people in the greater Philadelphia and Delaware region. These grants addressed food insecurity, COVID-19 testing and supply centers and more. While managing this undertaking, the bank held its annual Fall Food Drive at branch locations—resulting in the donation of nearly 57,000 meals to area food pantries.

In June 2020, the bank donated $200,000 to four CDFIs for relief grans to help local, small businesses affected by the pandemic. The bank also helped more than 5,000 customers obtain nearly $1 billion in first round PPP funding—protecting an estimated 100,000 jobs. Associates worked around the clock to support nearly $300 million of second round PPP loans, and continually facilitated forgiveness applications.

Through the bank’s corporate volunteer program, Team WSFS, associates were able to log 11,897 volunteer hours in 2020. Associates made meals at home that were donated to food banks, sewed masks, packed PPE, facilitated online financial literacy courses for kids and delivered meals to homebound seniors. WSFS’ philanthropic efforts didn’t stop there—the bank even pledged $35,500 to provide laptops for students in low-to-moderate income families.

As in-person volunteer opportunities became feasible once more, WSFS brought back Take Your Children to the Community Day, its spin on the national Take Your Child to Work Day. WSFS partnered with local nonprofits to put on this event, allowing more than 100 WSFS Bank associates, children and family members to volunteer together across the region.
